The Metro chapter of the Harley
Owners Group (HOG) has contributed approx. $88,000 to the CR area, during the
18 plus years of its existence. Click Here! to view contribution history.
Metro HOG is a not for profit organization, established on
September 22, 1990 with 63 charter members. The purpose of HOG is to provide
a social environment for people with similar interests, namely riding
motorcycles, particularly, Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Current membership
is at over 180 people, including 11 of the original charter members.
Member activities including chili cook-off's, bowling
parties, toy runs, poker runs, picnics, autumn leaf rides, and Christmas
parties are scheduled for the members enjoyment through out the entire year,
whether it be riding season or not. Additionally, weekly or bi-weekly dinner
rides occur during the riding season. An important aspect of all these
events is family involvement.
An underlying focus of many of the year's events is
fundraising. Money is raised for such purposes as to cover operating and
administrative expenses, chapter activities, downed biker funds, memorials
and charitable contributions.
The Metro chapter, throughout its history has always been
deeply involved in giving to those less fortunate in the community. Some of
the groups and organizations that Metro HOG has helped over the past 12
years include: Tanager Place, Toys for Tots, MDA, Camp Courageous, ARC,
Madge Phillips Center, Willis Dady Center, Foundation 2, Boys and Girls
Club, CR Free Medical Clinic, Homeless Children's Trust Organization,
Pancreatic Cancer Center, Children’s Miracle Network, Red Cross, Variety
Club, CR Health Free Clinic and many others.
One past fundraising event in particular that stands out
was the 1994 MDA Poker Run and Bike Raffle. This event organized by charter
members Denny and Lanette Kelley was a huge success, raising over $27,000
for Jerry's kids. The success of this event is a tribute to the generosity
of the many businesses of eastern Iowa, who donated the money to buy the
raffled H-D Sportster, as well as the hard work and dedication of the
membership of Metro HOG. HOG members sold raffle tickets, collected
donations, organized the poker run and participated in so many other ways to
make this the number one fundraiser for MDA, in eastern Iowa, for 1994.
Membership is the life's blood of our organization, and as
such, Metro HOG is always happy to welcome new members. If you are already a
member we would urge you to get or stay involved with the chapter events. If
you are not currently a member and would like more information, or think you
might be interested in joining, stop in at our sponsor, Metro
Harley-Davidson, or Click Here! for
